What’s it all about?
Creativity in Social care has been developed by
Artshape in collaboration with care workers across Gloucestershire. The course looks at the underlying nature of
creativity, how it affects us personally and how we apply it in work practice. The aim of the course is to develop care
workers’ creativity in the work environment, thereby enhancing the well-being
and quality of life of residents and service users.
The course will:
Ø
Expand personal confidence
Ø
Improve knowledge and understanding of groups
Ø
Enhance planning, leadership and assessment/evaluation
skills
Ø
Encourage practical application of creative activities
in the work environment
Who is the course
for?
Creativity in Social Care is suitable for all care
workers and carers who have a responsibility for activities are part of their
job. It’s a practical and skills-based
course appropriate for people of all ages and educational backgrounds. The course can be taught and accredited at
OCN levels 1, 2 and 3. The award is
design to be applicable to staff who deliver physical, emotional, or enabling
care to clients, whether they work in health or social care, in the public,
private or voluntary sectors. It is
designed to be applicable wherever such care is delivered (including hospitals,
the client’s own home, clinic, residential homes, nursing homes, day centres
and group homes).
How is the course
taught?
The course is designed to be taught by practising
artists who have many years’ experience teaching adults of all backgrounds and
abilities. There is additional tutor
support, visits to work places and help with building students’ portfolios, all
provided by the artists.
The course is made up of 5 units, in total 120 hours
of tutored learning, individual planning and preparation and work practice. Attendance is on a day-release basis. Creativity in Social Care has been designed
to be delivered as a one-year course comprising three OCN units. The course is not taught on a unit by unit
basis, rather an approach of covering all unit elements over the period of the
full course. This is due to the
interrelationship of many of the unit components.
The core team of artists that have built the course
have consistently used novel approaches in developing the modules for
accreditation, combining their practical experience of working within the
target sector with highly original methods of training delivery and module
content. A copy of the curriculum is
attached.
